P5 is a large suite of powerful tools meant for data archiving, backup, information synchronization, and entire workstation data back up to central disks.
Upon installing P5, you get access to an entire suite of utilities. This is a multi-platform set of tools that can be installed on Windows OS, macOS, and popular Linux distributions. As such, you get the option to save, store, and perform backups and system synchronizations regularly, from one operating system to another.
After going through the installation process, two programs will be installed on your PC. One is the P5client and the other one is the P5server; when accessing them locally, they both resolve to the localhost 127.0.0.1. Also, after installation and proper server configuration (done as admin), you can access the P5 GUI of your workstation at http://localhost:8000/workstation. If you access any of these, you will be prompted with a browser login window. Generally, and more normally, if opening any of these tools for the first time, you must log into the system using the standard credentials — admin for username and admin for the password.
The P5server gives you access to different features, such as 'Backup,' 'Backup2Go,' 'Synchronize,' 'Archive,' and 'Restore.' The first option, 'P5 Archive' is for migrating data offline to a disk, LTO (Linear Tape-Open, a format for high-capacity storage necessities and increased performance needs), or to cloud storage.
The second feature, 'P5 Backup,' is for backing up server data, and the third option, 'P5 Synchronize' is meant for replicating sets of data for constant availability. Last but not least, the 'P5 Backup2Go' is intended for backing up an entire workstation's data to a central disk. This last feature is particularly useful for those who remotely need to access their entire workstation's configuration. This is done after setting up the Backup2Go Server and defining a Workstation Group containing the stations you want to save.
All things considered, this solution is more suitable for corporate and business needs, as it provides large and scalable measures for those who have large sets of data to back up and synchronize, using dedicated servers. Also, the P5 suite is particularly useful for regularly backing up, restoring, or synchronizing multiple environments.
