Functy

Functy is a nice little program that helps users plot Cartesian and spherical functions quickly and easily. The simple GUI is meant to attract new users into the arts of 3D mathematics.

The overall layout of the program is simple and easy to decode. Users will have access to a limited 3D panel where they will be able to add just three simple objects: a Cartesian function, a sphere function, and a parametric curve function to the scene. All these will be rendered in the small 3D panel, and users can change their function values and accuracy in real time.

Control variables are also available for the user to tweak, together with object range and even some visual settings for fun.

The program is built to render 3D Cartesian, parametric, and polar coordinate curve functions in real time. All parameters are animated via the GUI using time variable vectors. Users can explore functions by translating, rotating, and zooming around the 3D model. Users can also adjust the material thickness and curvature axis properties, and can even fill their models completely.

Details of each model can also be altered, together with a check of their wireframe integrity. In case the real-time rendering shaders are too resource hungry, they can be turned off.

One of the great features of this app is its rich support for exporting options. Completed projects can be saved to PLY, STL, SVX, VDB, and even PNG file format. Animated models can be exported to PLY, STL, and BMP files. Unfinished projects can be saved to native XML format.

Functy is a handy application built for Cartesian function research and study with the help of  a beautiful and effective GUI that is, however, a bit graphically hungry. Since it renders all the 3D models in real time (complete with some shaders), expect your visual resources to be put to work while using this tool.

Overall, its simplicity and great compatibility with mainstream modeling utilities will make it an ideal Cartesian 3D editor for both artists and students alike.
