14 DAY TRIAL // Windows continues to be the number one desktop operating system in the world, and in most of the countries, it has a market share of around 90 percent on the PC, which is living proof that no other OS version out there can threaten its domination in this side of the business.
In India, however, more than 92 percent of the PCs are running Windows, which is living proof that Satya Nadella’s home country is one of the friendliest environments for his company’s own operating system.
While it’s hard to estimate how many of these licenses are genuine and how many are not, data provided by StatCounter indicates that Windows 7 is the number one OS version in the country with 57.73 percent, while Windows XP is second with 19.51 percent.
Windows 8.1 comes next with 10.03 percent, followed by Windows 8 with 5.1 percent. Overall, Windows has a market share of 92.37 percent in India.
The big difference from the other markets is that, in most of the cases, Mac OS X holds a bigger market share, sometimes becoming the second or the third most-used operating system. This time, however, Mac OS X is well behind with a share of only 1.94 percent.
Windows’ domination in India could increase even more in the coming months, when Windows 10 becomes generally available, as many non-Microsoft customers could finally make the switch to its own desktop operating system.
