VLC picked up a new update on Windows Phone today, and although the app continues to be in beta development stages, these new changes significantly improve user experience with multimedia content on devices powered by Microsoft's platforms.

According to the official release notes published in the store, VLC beta 1.0.10 comes with a brand new dark theme and fresh icons, which both make the app a bit prettier on Windows Phone.

But more importantly, the new version also includes speed improvements for playing songs, as well as enhancements when it comes to playing 720p videos on high-end devices. This means that, if you have a Lumia 930 or 1520 right now, 720p movies should be played much more smoothly than before and no performance issues should be experienced.

Additionally, today's release includes music indexation algorithm improvements, as well as support for local and embedded album covers. As you can see in the photo gallery below, this feature is still in experimental stage, and not all album covers are correctly imported, so some might not be displayed at all.

Overall, this is definitely a necessary update for all VLC users, but keep in mind that the app continues to be part of the beta development channel and some bugs and issues might still be experienced when trying to play your multimedia content on Windows Phone.
