The two devices are “no longer available,” the company says

Windows RT doesn’t seem to be part of Microsoft’s plans in the long term, so the company is now believed to be working to phase out devices running it, including its very own Surface RT and Surface 2 tablets.

Rumors that reached our ears a few months ago proved to be true, as Microsoft has updated its official website to state that the Surface RT and the Surface 2 are “no longer available,” so the focus is entirely on the Surface Pro 3.

Basically, Microsoft does the same thing as some of its partners, including Samsung, who decided to stop selling Windows RT-powered devices because of its low customer appeal. Microsoft, however, does this a lot later, which is most likely a sign that Redmond hoped to make it successful until the very last minute.

With the Surface RT and the Surface 2 now gone, is Windows RT at risk? There’s no doubt that it is, but not necessarily because of the two tablets that are no longer manufactured. With Windows 10, Microsoft will bring together tablets and smartphones, so the same operating system will power both types of devices. And that’s not Windows RT.

And yet, Microsoft guarantees that some features included in Windows 10 will also be shipped to Windows RT devices, with its own Surface tablets being among them. What exactly these features are remains to be seen, but do not expect to get the full Windows 10 experience on a Surface RT.
