Angel Linux For Linux

Angel Linux is an open source Linux operating system based on Puppy Linux and built around the extremely lightweight IceWM window manager. It aims to provide users with one of the best solutions for console emulation under an open source architecture.

It includes some of the best open source emulators for Atari, Apple Mac, Amiga, Commodore, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Nintendo DS, Neo Geo, PlayStation 2, SEGA, SEGA Saturn, SEGA Genesis, SNES, and ZX-Spectrum.

It is distributed as a single Live CD ISO image that supports both 64-bit and 32-bit hardware platforms, and can be easily written to a blank CD disc or USB thumb drive. There’s no boot menu on this Linux flavor, just a basic boot prompt that allows you to add specific boot options by pressing the F2 key. The good news is that the entire live system will be copied to RAM (system memory), allowing you to eject the boot medium and use the distro as-is.

As mentioned, the desktop environment is powered by the IceWM window manager. It prompts users to set the timezone, keyboard layout, screen resolution and hostname. Then, you will be able to connect to an existing network.

There’s only a transparent taskbar at the bottom edge of the screen, from where users can access the main menu and launch applications, switch between virtual workspaces, and interact with running apps or the system tray area.

Default applications include the GIMP, rgbPaint and mtPaint image editors, AbiWord word processor, Geany text editor, LinuxDC++ file sharing client, IceCat web browser, Sylpheed email client, TigerVNC VNC client, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Transmission torrent downloader, GNOME MPlayer video player, Audacious audio player, and Tor Browser.

The distro includes three of the most lightweight file managers, such as ROX-Filter, PCManFM and SpaceFM. By default, desktop items are opened with a single mouse click.
