Triton Linux For Linux

Triton Linux is a completely free and open source distribution of Linux derived from the minimalist Puppy Linux operating system and designed especially for French-speaking users. It comes with the JWM (Joe’s Window Manager) interface and numerous attractive applications.

The Triton Linux distro is available for download as a dual-arch and minimal Live CD ISO image that has only 150 MB in size and can be easily deployed to either a CD disc or a USB thumb drive of at least 512MB. The user can boot the ISO image on a computer supporting either of the 64-bit (x86_64) or 32-bit (x86) instruction set architecture.

Being based on Puppy Linux, Triton inherits its Live CD boot menu, which has been engineered to automatically start the live system in five seconds from the moment the user boots the ISO image from the BIOS of a computer. It is also possible to view a basic or advanced list of boot options by pressing the F2 or F3 key respectively, or just press Enter at the boot prompt if you’re in a hurry.

JWM (Joe’s Window Manager) is used by default in numerous Puppy Linux derivatives, including Triton. It provides users with a simple, traditional and clean graphical desktop environment that comprises of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, as well as a dock (application launcher) located on the upper part of the screen. Keep in mind though, that French is the default language.

The main emphasis of Triton Linux is on the software collection. It comes pre-loaded with powerful and popular applications, among which we can mention the HomeBank personal financial manager, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Transmission torrent downloader, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger and uGet download manager.
