Kubuntu Plasma 5 For Linux

Kubuntu Plasma5 is an open source distribution of Linux that gives users a glimpse of the powerful and amazing KDE Plasma 5 graphical desktop environment, on top of the latest development branch of Kubuntu.

Of course, in the good tradition of Kubuntu, the Plasma5 edition is distributed as two Live DVD ISO images, one that will run on old 32-bit machines and another one for modern 64-bit computers.

As expected, the Live DVD boot menu is identical with the one of the main Kubuntu edition, allowing the user to start the live system, check the disc for defects (only if using a DVD media), test the memory for errors, as well to boot an existing operating system from the local drive.

The graphical session has not been altered in any way, shape, or form, providing users with pure KDE Plasma 5 desktop session that comprises of a panel located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where they can navigate the main menu, launch applications, cycle between virtual workspaces, as well as to interact with running apps and the system tray area.

Being built around the KDE Plasma desktop environment, the Kubuntu Plasma5 operating system comes pre-loaded with KDE-specific apps, among which we can mention the Konqueror web browser, Dolphin file manager, KMail email client, Akregator news reader and Amarok audio player.

At the moment, the Kubuntu Plasma5 operating system is in heavy development, which means that it's not ready for production use. It might not work well on certain hardware components, especially proprietary graphics cards. Moreover, KDE Plasma 5 will remain a Tech Preview for the final release of Kubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn).
