Trinity Desktop Environment For Linux

Trinity Desktop Environment is an open source and totally free software project that has been designed from the ground up as an unofficial continuation of the deprecated KDE 3.5.x desktop environment created by the KDE Project and implemented in numerous distributions of Linux in the past.

It is an independent graphical desktop environment that aims to keep KDE 3.5 alive and improve various components, such as network connectivity, display control or user authentication, making it available to modern distributions of Linux that have a lightweight design goal.

The design part of Trinity Desktop Environment is quite identical with the old-school KDE 3.5 desktop environment, offering the same traditional and responsive interface that comprises of a single panel located on the bottom edge of the screen.

The panel includes various applets, such as a Main Menu, allowing the user to browse and launch installed apps, an Application Launcher that gives you quick access to frequently used apps, a Workspace Switcher, so you can rapidly cycle between multiple workspaces and be more productive, a Task Manager to effortlessly interact with running programs, as well as an ever-useful System Tray area.

As expected, the project not only comprises of the user interface described in the above section, but it also includes a wide range of useful applications that allow users to surf the Internet, send and receive email messages, chat with friends and family, view images, write text and create/edit documents, as well as various other useful desktop utilities.

At the moment, Trinity Desktop Environment is used in various distributions of Linux as the default and only graphical desktop environment. You can think of it as an alternative to the Razor-qt desktop environment, which has been merged with the LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) project to create a next generation user interface for GNU/Linux systems, called LXQt.
