Canonical has announced the release of the Ubuntu 15.10 Final Beta for Ubuntu and some of its most important flavors, including Lubuntu, which is built around the LXDE desktop environment.

According to the brief release notes, Lubuntu 15.10 Beta 2 is the last Beta build of the Wily Werewolf cycle and remains based on LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment), as the development team has decided that it is not yet time to move to the next-generation LXQt desktop environment. However, the good news is that Lubuntu 15.10 is now powered by Linux kernel 4.2.1.

"We’re preparing Lubuntu 15.10, Wily Werewolf, for distribution in October 2015. With this second beta you can see what the next version will contain. We have some interesting things happening, so read on for highlights and information. LXQt is still in development, so Wily Werewolf is another bug fix release using LXDE," reads the announcement.

The second Beta build of Lubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) resolves issues with the iBus input method framework for multilingual input in the distribution by replacing it with the more modern Fcitx, which also reintroduces fonts for the Korean, Japanese, and Chinese languages. Moreover, the lubuntu-extra-sessions package is now optional and has been removed from the Live CDs.

Those of you who want to take the Final Beta build of the upcoming Lubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system for a test drive can download the Live ISO images for 32-bit or 64-bit hardware architectures right now from Softpedia. Please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version and it's not suitable for deployment on production machines.
