The GNOME developers are working on some really cool new features, and some this new stuff will be landing with the next release. In this case, it's about the integration of LibreOffice with GNOME Documents.

Over the past couple of years, it has become abundantly clear that LibreOffice is the main office suite for the Linux platform, so it's not really surprising that more integration is needed. GNOME developers are working to "marry" LibreOffice with GNOME Documents, although it's not clear when this will be ready. What we do know is that it's being worked on right now.

"I managed to integrate LibreOfficeKit’s LOKDocView widget with gnome-documents, finally. There are still lot of improvements that I need, for example, we need to have a new editing overlay now in gnome-documents so that you can do operations like bold, italics, underline, search, switch to edit mode and view mode, and few other things. There are also crashes right now which possibly are because I haven’t yet written robust code to separate nicely the currently used EvinceView and the newly used LOKDocView," wrote developer Pranav Kant.

The developer also posted a very interesting video showing the progress he's made until now. He still has a lot of work to do, but it's worth something worth watching for.
