It would appear that Greg Kroah-Hartman is on an airplane right now at approximately 30,000 feet in the air and he just announced that the recently launched Linux 4.1 kernel will be the next LTS (Long Term Support) release maintained for the next two years.

The decision to make Linux kernel 4.1 the next major LTS release was unveiled at the beginning of the month, when Softpedia was the first to discover the news on the Twitter account of Linux Foundation's LTSI project.

Today's announcement that Linux kernel 4.1 is an official LTS release comes straight from its maintainer, Greg Kroah-Hartman, who was also proud to announce new kernel maintenance releases, including Linux kernel 4.0.6, Linux kernel 3.14.45 LTS, and Linux kernel 3.10.81 LTS, which were reported in separate articles earlier today.

"New kernel release announcement, made from 30k feet, with Walter the Labradoodle sitting in the seat next to me and then falling asleep on my arm," says Greg Kroah-Hartman on a Google+ post. "Also, now that 4.1 is out, time to announce that it will be the next 'Long Term Support' kernel I'll be maintaining for the next two years. "
