On July 21, the GNOME Project announced the immediate availability for download of the sixth maintenance release of the GTK+ 3.16 open-source and cross-platform GUI toolkit for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

According to the internal changelog, which we have attached at the end of the article for reference, GTK+ 3.16.6 is here to introduce initial aspect ratio support for the Mac OS X operating system, as well as to revert a change in the scroll event handling functionality that was added in the previous maintenance release and didn't work as expected.

Several bugs were squashed as well in the GTK+ 3.16.6 maintenance release, such as a crash with DnD, a build error with the vanilla version of the Wayland next-generation display server, a crash that occurred when getting a NULL visual in glx_pixmap_get, and issues with huge rendering hangs or pauses when using GTK+ 3 apps over SSH (Secure Shell) connections.

Last but not least, the sixth maintenance release of GTK+ 3.16 is here to implement support for using the menu binding code in the testgmenu function, to improve the code snippet and long description of GtkImageMenuItem, as well as to update the Polish, Czech, Lithuanian, Slovenian, and Hungarian languages.

Download the GTK+ 3.16.6 sources right now from Softpedia, where you will also find the latest development build of the software, version 3.17.5, which is currently distributed as part of the unstable GNOME 3.17.4 desktop environment and for which we wrote a separate article.
