The GNOME Project is hard at work these days to release the fourth snapshot of the upcoming GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, due for release on September 23, 2015. The Evince 3.17.4 document viewer app has been updated with new features.

According to the raw changelog, which we've attached at the end of the article for reference, the Evince 3.17.4 unstable build is here to introduce an all-new annotations toolbar that replaces the sidebar tab and promises to let users add annotations to their documents in an easier and more intuitive way.

"The sidebar tab to add new annotations has been removed, and a new annotations toolbar has been added making it easier to discover and more convenient to annotate documents," reads the release announcement.

Besides the new annotations toolbar, Evince 3.17.4, which will be distributed as part of the GNOME 3.17.4 desktop environment, brings updates to several language translations, including German, Spanish, Hebrew, Hungarian, Portuguese, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, and Tajik.

Those of you who want to test this new unstable build of the Evince document viewer and can't wait for the GNOME 3.17.4 desktop environment release can download the Evince 3.17.4 sources right now from Softpedia and compile the app themselves. Please note that this is a pre-release software and it's not recommended for production environments.
