14 DAY TRIAL // The GNOME developers are working around the clock these days on the third development milestone towards the GNOME Maps 3.20 open-source maps application for the upcoming GNOME 3.20 desktop environment.
The GNOME 3.19.3 snapshot is planned for release on December 16, 2015, but most probably, it will arrive later this week, bringing updates for many of the desktop environment's core components and applications. These include the GNOME Maps app, which has been updated today to version 3.19.3, a development build of the upcoming GNOME Maps 3.20 software.
The release notes have been published (see them attached at the end of the article), and we can tell you that GNOME Maps 3.19.3 adds some interesting new features. Worth mentioning are support for editing locations in OpenStreetMap (OSM), support for MapBox simplestyle and MultiPoint for GeoJSON, as well as the ability to export maps to images, which has been implemented in the right-click context menu.
The GNOME Maps 3.19.3 release also patches a bug in the send-to dialog, which was discovered when the default web browser had no icon. Moreover, the Hungarian, Spanish, Czech, Greek, Portuguese, Slovak, Finnish, and Slovenian language translations have been updated.
Those of you who wish to take this early build of the GNOME Maps software for a test drive can download the GNOME Maps 3.19.3 sources right now from our website and start compiling by hand. However, please note that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for production use. GNOME Maps 3.19.3 will be distributed as part of the forthcoming GNOME 3.19.3 desktop environment release.
