14 DAY TRIAL // We reported a couple of months ago that the GNOME developers decided to add codenames to upcoming releases of the open source desktop environment, starting with GNOME 3.18.
At that point in time, the GNOME team agreed to codename GNOME releases after the cities where the GUADEC and GNOME.Asia Summit conferences were about to take place. So they started with the GNOME 3.18 release, which was dubbed Gothenburg, were the GUADEC 2015 was hosted.
Today, the GNOME Project had the great pleasure of announcing the location and dates for the GNOME.Asia Summit conference, which apparently will be held in Delhi, India, at the Manav Rachna International University (MRIU), which is located in the Faridabad district. The event will take place between April 21-24, 2016.
"We’re excited to bring GNOME.Asia Summit 2016 Summit to India, a country with a vast, diverse culture well as a growing IT-sector and a thriving Free Software Community," says Shobha Tyagi, member of the local organizing team. "GNOME.Asia 2016 will be held between the 21st and 24th of April."
Therefore, taking into consideration all the above, we can only assume that the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment will be dubbed Delhi, but keep in mind that there's no official statement at the moment of writing this article. The development of GNOME 3.20 will start in the coming weeks, and the final release will hit the streets sometime in April 2016.
