On September 17, the Git developers announced that the third maintenance release of the stable 2.5 branch of the world's most used distributed version control system software, Git, is available for download for all GNU/Linux operating systems, as well as for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X platforms.

According to the internal changelog, which we have attached at the end of the article for reference, Git 2.5.3 is a small release that only updates the experimental untracked-cache feature to work as expected when handling paths that have several levels of sub-directories, as well as to fix a performance regression in the "git am" command.

"Recent versions of scripted 'git am' has a performance regression in 'git am --skip' codepath, which no longer exists in the built-in version on the 'master' front. Fix the regression in the last scripted version that appear in 2.5.x maintenance track and older," reads the announcement. "Also contains typofixes, documentation updates and trivial code clean-ups."

As usual, there's no maintenance release of the Git revision control system without some updates to the documentation, minor code cleanups, and various typo fixes. Download Git 2.5.3 sources and binaries for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now via Softpedia or directly from the official website of the project, whichever suits you best.
