Today, March 29, 2016, the major FFmpeg 3.0 "Einstein" open-source and cross-platform multimedia framework received its first maintenance release, version 3.0.1.

FFmpeg 3.0 introduced a multitude of new features, including support for decoding and encoding Common Encryption (CENC) MP4 files, support for decoding Screenpresso SPV1 streams, as well as support for decoding DXV streams.

Additionally, FFMpeg 3.0 brought a wve demuxer, an ADPCM PSX decoder, an ADPCM AICA decoder, XMA1 and XMA2 decoders, an SDX2 DPCM decoder, a Cineform HD decoder, a chromaprint fingerprinting muxer, VAAPI VP9 hwaccel, and an IVR demuxer.

According to the brief release notes published earlier on the project's website, FFmpeg 3.0.1 is now available to download for all supported operating systems, including GNU/Linux, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows, and it only updates some of its core components.

As usual, the FFmpeg developers noted the fact that FFmpeg 3.0.1 is now the latest stable and most advanced FFmpeg release from the 3.0 release branch, cut from the Git master on February 14, 2016.

FFmpeg 3.0.1 contains the libavutil 55.17.103, libavcodec 57.24.102, libavformat 57.25.100, libavdevice 57.0.101, libavfilter 6.31.100, libavresample 3.0.0, libswscale 4.0.100, libswresample 2.0.101, and libpostproc 54.0.100 updated libraries.

As expected, we always recommend our readers to run the latest stable version of software to avoid system issues and crashes, so update to FFmpeg 3.0.1 as soon as possible. You can also download the FFmpeg 3.0.1 sources right now from Softpedia.
