Earlier today, November 27, FFmpeg, the leading multimedia framework for Linux kernel-based operating systems, has received a new maintenance release, version 2.8.3, which updates many of the project's core components.

According to the brief release notes, which we've attached at the end of the article for reference, the FFMpeg 2.8.3 "Feynman" release is now the latest stable and most advanced FFmpeg build from the 2.8 series. It comes with the most recent changes released for the libav 11, libav master, and ffmpeg-mt projects.

"2.8.3 was released on 2015-11-27. It is the latest stable FFmpeg release from the 2.8 release branch, which was cut from master on 2015-09-05. Amongst lots of other changes, it includes all changes from ffmpeg-mt, libav master of 2015-08-28, libav 11 as of 2015-08-28," reads the announcement.

Among the updated components in this third maintenance release of FFmpeg 2.8, we can mention libavutil 54.31.100, libavcodec 56.60.100, libavformat 56.40.101, libavdevice 56.4.100, libavfilter 5.40.101, libavresample 2.1.0, libswscale 3.1.101, libswresample 1.2.101, and libpostproc 53.3.100.

FFmpeg 2.8.3 is now live on the default software repositories of various GNU/Linux operating systems, such as Arch Linux, and users can update to this latest stable version right now.
