In a brief announcement posted on September 3, the developers of the Debian- and Enlightenment-based Elive Linux distribution have announced the immediate availability for download and testing of a new Beta build.

Elive 2.6.10 Beta backports 87 commits from the upstream Enlightenment E17 project, addressing numerous bugs and improving the overall performance and stability of the open-source desktop environment on top of which the Debian-based distribution is built.

Additionally, the new Elive 2.6.10 Beta build improves the shadows on windows, offering users a 3D (three-dimensional) and deeper feeling, especially to focused windows, and addresses an important issue with the power management widget on laptop computers that have broken batteries, related to the shutdown functionality.

"We need your feedbacks and reports, each version can include new things not working as expected, if is the case please contact us on our live chat or report it to from the website! Beta versions are not so optimized as the Stable ones due to debug flags and developer profiles, you can encounter errors and incomplete things," reads the announcement.

You can download the Elive 2.6.10 Beta distribution right now from Softpedia, but please try to keep in mind that it is a pre-release version, not ready for deployment on production environments where stability is of the essence. The stable version of Elive is also available for download on Softpedia and it is the recommended choice for new users who want to install the OS.
