digiKam Software Collection is digital photo management application for the KDE desktop that includes an image editor for photo corrections and manipulation. The application was just updated to version 4.6.0.

The digiKam collection is getting quite a lot of attention and quite a few updates have been released so far. It's true that most of them are actually just for maintenance purposes, but some interesting things are added from time to time as well.

"The digiKam Team is proud to announce the release of digiKam Software Collection 4.6.0. This release includes many bugs fixes in Image Editor and Batch Queue Manager. Thanks to Maik Qualmann and Jan Wolter to propose patches in KDE bugzilla. The digiKam software collection tarball can be downloaded from the KDE repository. Have a Merry Christmas and an happy new year, playing with your photos using this new release," reads the official announcement.

This application is designed for KDE desktops, but it's not limited to that. In fact, it's possible to install it in other environments as well, like Unity for example. It's a little difficult to compile it from the source, but it can be done.

The complete changelog for digiKam can be found on the official website. You can download the digiKam 4.6.0 sources right now from Softpedia. Keep in mind that it has a lot of dependencies.
