14 DAY TRIAL // ClearFoundation' David Loper comes today with news about the immediate availability for download of the first RC (Release Candidate) build of the upcoming ClearOS 7.1.0 enterprise-class, server oriented GNU/Linux distribution based on CentOS 7.
According to the release notes, ClearOS 7.1.0 Release Candidate 1 comes with the brand new Samba 4 Directory software, which aims to be a replacement for Microsoft Active Directory, introduces a new streamlined theme system, updates the IPS and IDS engines, along with the antivirus and antispam engines, adds a dynamic dashboard, updates the Microsoft Active Directory Connector, adds a new Google Apps Connector, introduces an alert and event notification Framework, and adds IPv6 and internationalization support.
"We are excited to add Samba Directory to the mix. Samba Directory allows for Active Directory equivalent functionality using ClearOS as your Directory Server. Simple user and group administration is available for Samba Directory in the usual places in ClearOS' Webconfig," says David Loper. "If you comply with Microsoft's EULA for the tool, you can use Microsoft's Server administration tools to modify additional aspects of your Samba Directory including Group Policy Objects."
The final version of ClearOS 7.1.0 will be released later this year, but if you want to take it for a test drive right now, you can always download the ClearOS 7.1.0 Release Candidate 1 build from Softpedia or directly from the project's website, whichever suits you best, just please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, which means that it contains unresolved issues and it's not ready for deployment on production environments where stability is of the essence.
