Xubuntu developers informed users today, April 29, that the LTS (Long Term Support) version of the Xubuntu Linux operating system is no longer supported, as it reached end of life (EOL) on April 26, 2015.

Now that the stable version of Xubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) is available for download, the developers instruct Xubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) users to upgrade to the latest LTS release, Xubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) as soon as possible.

Of course, nothing stops you from upgrading to Xubuntu 15.04, but please keep in mind that LTS releases are supported with security patches and software updates for three years, which means that Xubuntu 14.04 LTS will continue to receive support until April 2017.

"While it will continue to receive updates from the repository, we will no longer be providing any Xubuntu support for packages. Packages provided via Xubuntu-owned PPAs will also be discontinued," was stated in today's announcement.

While other Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) flavors will continue to receive updates for two more years, until April 2017, Xubuntu 12.04 only had a three-year support cycle that ended on April 26, 2015. You can download Xubuntu 15.04 right now via Softpedia.
