Version 4.2 of WordPress, the world’s most popular web software that allows anyone to create beautiful blogs and websites in minutes, is getting closer with the recently released Beta 3 version that brings over 65 changes. The new version is available for download here.

Among the most important changes, we can mention that WordPress 4.2 Beta 3 removes the “Shiny Installs” functionality because of some issues with the activation workflow. Users are urged to test the remaining “Shiny Updates” functionality via the Plugins and/or Plugins > Add New sections and report any issues with the in-line updates.

The emoji compatibility script has been improved and it will now load on the backend and frontend only if it’s required by the web browser. Users are urged to test the emoji functionality with a legacy web browser, where available. The accessibility of login screen errors has been improved in this third Beta release and screen reader users are urged to report any issues they encounter.

Two bugs have been squashed in this release, one related to the Comments Quick Edit layout, which was incompatible with the small screens or mobile devices, and another one related to the “Press This” function when importing images. Lastly, the time display format has been standardized and it will automatically switch to 24-hour format if a.m. or p.m. is not specified.
