14 DAY TRIAL // In a recent interview, Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of Canonical and Ubuntu, revealed the fact that mobile vendors are queuing to deliver the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system on their smartphones, following on the footsteps of BQ and Meizu.
The 6-minute-long interview was taken by Steve Costello from Mobile World Live and you can watch it entirely here. In the quite short interview, Mark Shuttleworth talks about the recently released BQ Aquaris E4.5 and Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition devices.
Among other things, he brags about how the marvelous community of Ubuntu developers is working hard these days to bring full convergence to the Ubuntu platform, and that Canonical has a strong relationship with them, and the fact that there a large number of contributions.
However, the most interesting aspect of the interview is about the fact that several mobile vendors are waiting to partner with Canonical in order to deliver more Ubuntu Phones to emerging markets.
“The pitch there is first a fresh experience that’s not as dominated by apps, it’s much more focused on information at your fingertips, much more lightweight access, classy access to all the goodness that you’ll find in a range of services that are essentially web services,” says Mark Shuttleworth about Ubuntu for phones.
