The Ubuntu MATE image is dated March 14, 2015

Rohith Madhavan has announced today the immediate availability for download of the Ubuntu MATE 15.04 operating system for the Raspberry Pi 2 computer board. The new binary image of Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) is dated March 14, 2015, and brings several interesting features and improvements.

According to the release notes, systemd is now used as the default init system, VideoCore (GPU) libraries have been added for smoother HD (High Defintion) video playback, the linux-firmware and openssh-server packages are now installed by default, and the OMXPlayer software has been added for video playback.

“I have made an Ubuntu MATE 15.04 image for the Raspberry Pi 2 which you can download below,” says Rohith Madhavan in today’s announcement. “Since 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) is a development release and also because this is my first attempt at creating an armhf image, there are a few issues.”
