The Tor Project has announced recently the immediate availability for download of Tor Browser Bundle 4.0.4, a maintenance release that includes updated packages, several bug fixes, as well as an updated base from the upstream ESR (Extended Support Release) edition of the Mozilla Firefox project.

Therefore, we can report that TOR Browser is now based on Mozilla Firefox 31.5.0 ESR, uses OpenSSL 1.0.1l, NoScript 2.6.9.15, and HTTPS-Everywhere 4.0.3. An additional update notification will no longer be displayed, the new NoScript menu option has been removed in order to make permissions permanent, and NoScript will now disable permanent permissions.

“Tor Browser 4.0.4 is based on Firefox ESR 31.5.0, which features important security updates to Firefox. Additionally, it contains updates to NoScript, HTTPS-Everywhere, and OpenSSL (none of the OpenSSL advisories since OpenSSL 1.0.1i have affected Tor, but we decided to update to the latest 1.0.1 release anyway),” was stated in the official release announcement.

Download Tor Browser Bundle 4.0.4 for Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows right now from Softpedia. Pre-built packages are available for 64 and 32-bit computer platforms. As usual, you can also update to the new Tor Browser version directly from the application (a notification should appear on the left side of the window at startup).
