The SuperTuxKart development team had the pleasure of announcing today, April 21, the general availability of the final version of their SuperTuxKart 0.9 free, cross-platform, and open-source 3D kart racing game for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows platforms.

After one and a half year of development, SuperTuxKart 0.9 is released today to celebrate the all-new rendering engine. Prominent features include two completely new designed high-quality tracks (Grand Paradiso Island and Cocoa Temple), and improvements to existing tracks.

"It has been a rather long time since our last official release - nearly one and a half year. But we have not been idle during this, actually more the opposite. The 0.9 release contains some significant changes - especially (though not only) visual changes," was stated in the official release announcement for SuperTuxKart 0.9.

Among other highlights of SuperTuxKart 0.9, we can mention brand-new karts (Amanda, Gavroche, and Sara), improvements to existing karts, including Tux, Xue, Suzanne, and Adiumy, online login that lets players connect with friends and collect achievements.

Last but not least, the new release of the SuperTuxKart 3D kart racing video game offers an in-game Grand Prix editor, different kart physics, random Grand Prix generation, and an achievement system. Download SuperTuxKart 0.9 for Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows (from the game's official website).
