A new Steam Beta version has been released by Valve, and a new development cycle has started for the gaming platform. It's nothing to write home about, but it does feature an entry for the Linux platform.

Valve usually gathers a few Steam Beta updates before releasing a new stable version, and this is just the beginning of the cycle. It's very likely that we'll see quite a few more versions like this one, but in the end it will be a consistent update.

According to the short changelog published by the developers, the Family Sharing request dialog no longer freezes up the Steam client, new community, and profile features have been enabled, the market, game hubs, workshop, and inventory have been made available natively in Big Picture mode, and the Steam Big Picture freezes and graphics corruptions no longer occur when switching sessions.

Users who want all of these latest improvements and fixes will have to go into Preferences and switch to the Beta channel. You will have to update the application and restart it. Also, if you don't have Steam for Linux just yet, you can download the installer from Softpedia. This is not the entire client, just a dedicated downloader.
