Space Drifters 2D is a new minimalist top-down space shooter developed and published on Steam by Matthew Coyle. The developer also covered the Linux platform.

Space Drifters 2D is still in the Early Access program, which means it's still pretty far from being a complete game. It will be some time until the developer is able to provide a stable and full game, but it should still provide a limited experience to anyone willing to try an incomplete title.

"This is as a top down space shooter with Newtonian physics style movement. It's made in the Unity engine with graphics and controls reminiscent of Asteroids with the added benefit of local co-op and multiple versus modes," reads the Steam synopsis.

The title will feature both solo and co-op modes, a versus mode, and hold the flag. It might look like just a simple game, but the fact that it uses Newtonian physics makes it much more interesting and difficult to master.

On the other hand, its minimalist style means that it won't have major system requirements. In fact, they are so small that it's hard to imagine that someone won't be able to play it. Users will need any Linux distribution, a Core 2 Duo processor or equivalent, and 32MB of VRAM on their video card.

The game also comes with a 20% discount that will be offered until June 22.
