The application can now sort photos by filename

Shotwell, the open-source software that is used as the default photo viewer and organizer utility in numerous distributions of GNU/Linux, including Ubuntu, has reached version 0.22.0 on March 23, ahead of the GNOME 3.16 announcement on March 25, bringing assorted new features and fixes.

According to the raw changelog, version 0.22.0 of the acclaimed Shotwell application is here to improve metadata support when uploading your photos to the popular Facebook social network. It also improves its graphical user interface (GUI). The application is now capable of importing exposure time and title of photos if available.

Moreover, Shotwell 0.22.0 brings a handful of other improvements and bug fixes, such as proper support for text is-set and text not-set options when saving searches, as well as the ability to sort photos by filename. Several translations have also been updated in the new Shotwell 0.22.0 release.

The new Shotwell version has been unveiled in preparation for the forthcoming GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, due for release on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.
