The distribution is based on the latest Kodi release

The sixth maintenance release of the OpenELEC 5.0 operating system for the Raspberry Pi computer board has been released today, March 14, and it brings a number of updated components as well as various improvements over the previous release, OpenELEC 5.0.5.

According to the changelog, OpenELEC 5.0.6 updates Kodi to version 14 from Git, updates the Linux kernel package to version 3.18.9 LTS, which has been optimized for Raspberry Pi, uses kmod 20, and uses the libvorbis 1.3.5 and libgcrypt 1.6.3 libraries.

Additionally, it updates the XZ Utils to version 5.2.1, updates the ALSA Utils and Libraries to version 1.0.29, updates the bcm2835 driver to latest Git versions, and updates SQLite to version 3.8.8.3. OpenELEC 5.0.6 now uses legacy turbo, fixing BYT full freeze issues.

This release also updates the Raspberry Pi and Raspberry Pi 2 support patches, enables all buttons on the TiVo Slide Pro remote, fixes double Unlocks and SyncHandle for X11/DRI2, fixes CT2-4400v2 clock, and add CONFIG_DVB_SP2 for Raspberry Pi 2.

Last but not least, the kernel of the IMX6 project has been changed to include support for IWLWIFI and PCI, and the iwlwifi-firmware has been added to its options. Download OpenELEC 5.0.6 right now from Softpedia.
