MKVToolNix, a complete set of tools to create, alter, and inspect Matroska files under Linux and Windows, has been upgraded once more and its makers have made a few important changes and improvements to the application.

MKVToolNix is an application that doesn't have a lot of competition on the Linux platform and the same is true for Windows. It's one of the best of its kind and it's completely free, which makes it even better. Windows users might have access to more advanced software, but it will cost a lot of money.

These past few days have been very busy for the developers of this application and they released no less than three separate updates in just four days. They all took care of some very important problems and now it looks like things have calmed down.

According to the changelog, the application is now fully capable of checking if the hard disk is full, the MPEG transport streams have been fixed, MP4 DASH files are now supported, and a number of smaller fixes have been implemented as well.

With MKVToolNix, users can get information about (mkvinfo) Matroska files, extract tracks/data from (mkvextract) Matroska files, and create (mkvmerge) Matroska files from other media files. More details about this release can be found in the changelog. You can download MKVToolNix 7.5.0 right now from Softpedia. This is the source package, so you will have to compile it yourself.
