The Linux Mint developers have announced today, May 7, in what appears to be the shortest monthly newsletter ever released, that the team works hard these days to bring you the second installment of the Linux Mint 17 operating system.

Dubbed Rafaela, Linux Mint 17.2 promises to bring important new features, updated packages, and bugfixes. It will be offered as an upgrade to all users of the popular Linux Mint 17.1 (Rebecca) operating system.

As expected, Linux Mint 17.2 (Rafaela) will include an updated kernel and base, most likely based on the upstream Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) operating system, and will include the highly anticipated Cinnamon 2.6 and MATE 1.10 desktop environments.

"Linux Mint 17.2 'Rafaela' is planned for the end of the June, with an RC release mid-June," says Clement Lefebvre. "Many thanks to our sponsors and to all the people who donated to us. Special thanks also to the artists who answered our call for help last month."

In related news, Clement Lefebvre, founder and lead developer of the Linux Mint project, announced last month that the next major release of the operating system, Linux Mint 18, would arrive sometime in 2016. The Release Candidate (RC) version of Linux Mint 17.2 will be out in mid-June 2015.
