The latest version of the stable Linux kernel, 3.14.37, has been released by Greg Kroah-Hartman, making this one of the most advanced long-term support version available for download.

LTS status for a Linux kernel version means that it gets updated for a long time, which in turn makes it ideal to implement in operating systems. Some developers prefer LTS kernels for their distro because they are proven to work over a long period of time, and they tend to be a little bit more stable. This is also important for people who don't really want to make an upgrade to the kernel. It can cause complications for servers, for example.

“I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.37 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade. The updated 3.14.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.14.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary,” said Greg Kroah-Hartman in an email announcement.

If you are using any of the versions released until now in the Linux kernel 3.14.x branch, you should consider an update to this build. As always, you can also upgrade past this LTS version to the latest iteration, 3.19.3.

A complete list of changes in this branch of the kernel can be found in the official announcement. You can download Linux kernel 3.14.37 right now from Softpedia, but please keep in mind that this is the source package and you will have to compile it.
