Homeworld Remastered is a collection of games that contains Homeworld Remastered Edition and Homeworld 2 Remastered Edition that have been released by Gearbox. Linux users are now trying to make enough waves so that the studio hears their plea for a port.

The rights for the Homeworld franchise were acquired a while ago by Gearbox and almost immediately the developers announced that they were planning to release a remastered edition. It took them almost a year to finish the work, but now they are done and the launch is scheduled to take place in just a month.

Unfortunately, there is no Linux version and that's a real shame. It's actually a rather old engine and it's easy to imagine why it might need just a little work to get a port running, but there is no word that it might happen.

The thing is that Gearbox also did Borderlands and those titles were ported to Linux by another company. The publishers for the Homeworld Remastered Collection is Gearbox itself, so they might not have the same interests and preferences as the Borderlands publishers, 2K Games.

In any case, people have started to make a case for Linux version, including on Reddit, Steam, and a few other places. Writing tweets is also advisable. Making as much noise as possible is the only way that the Linux community will be heard.
