Mutter, the default window manager and compositor of the acclaimed GNOME desktop environment received an update as part of the first development release of the upcoming GNOME 3.18, due for release on October 23, 2015.

We announced the release of the GNOME 3.17.1 desktop environment a couple of days ago. Mutter 3.17.1 has been released as well and it adds support for modal hint on the Wayland display server, as well as a public method for fetching neighboring monitor.

In addition, Mutter 3.17.1 is here to fix an issue with the scroll button setting. The software received some improvements that make it apply the right settings to the right input devices, and no longer resets idle time for non-hardware events.

A couple of miscellaneous bugs have been fixed as well. The Mutter 3.17.1 project is currently distributed as part of the recently released GNOME 3.17.1 desktop environment, but you can also download the Mutter 3.17.1 sources right now from Softpedia.

Please keep in mind that it is a pre-release version of Mutter and it might contain bugs. Thus, we do not recommend installing it on production machines where stability is a must.
