Canonical has just revealed that a large number of Firefox vulnerabilities have been corrected and that version 37 of the browser has been integrated into Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

Every new update for Firefox in Ubuntu brings a ton of security fixes, and this is no exception. The only interesting thing that can be noticed is that the new Firefox version has arrived very quickly after its official launch. It usually takes the Ubuntu maintainers a couple of days until they push it to the repos, but now they've done it on the same day.

"Bobby Holley discovered that windows created to hold privileged UI content retained access to privileged internal methods if navigated to unprivileged content. An attacker could potentially exploit this in combination with another flaw, in order to execute arbitrary script in a privileged context," reads the security notice.

This is just one of the vulnerabilities found and corrected with the latest update. For a complete list of changes you should check the security notice. The affected platforms are Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 14.10. To get this, you can simply run the Update Manager application, but you can also use the terminal.

Open a terminal and enter the following commands (you will need to be root and you will need Internet access):

code
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Please keep in mind that you will have to restart the application in order to complete the updating process.
