As you might know, the Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 (Jessie) operating system has been announced on April 25, 2015, and it is the first ever release to include optional Cinnamon and MATE desktop environments that users can test via Live CDs.

As Cinnamon is one of my favorite desktop environments, which I currently use on an Arch Linux machine, I was tremendously curious to see what the Cinnamon setup looks like on the Debian 8 "Jessie" distribution.

Therefore, I took the Live CD for a spin and created a screenshot tour that you can view at the end of the blog or by clicking on the header image. The Cinnamon Live CD includes all the new features and apps introduced in Debian 8 Jessie.

Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed to find out that Debian 8 uses the Cinnamon 2.2.16 desktop environment with a default layout/theme, which is a quite old release, as the current Cinnamon version in Arch Linux is at 2.4.8.

Download the Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 (Jessie) Cinnamon Live CD right now from Softpedia, where you will find ISO images for both 64 and 32-bit computer platforms. Additionally, you will find a Live CD with the MATE desktop environment.
