On May 8, the CryEngine team from Crytek published a brief announcement informing game developers about a small, yet very important modification to their EULA (End-User License Agreement).

The big news is that Crytek has just confirmed that that are finally planning on supporting the Linux platform, and most probably the highly anticipated CryEngine Linux client should be released very soon.

"Let's talk about the pengui... elephant in the room [...] We are proud to announce that we will add an Open GL implementation and support for running your EaaS games on Linux with one of our next updates," says Crytek.

The hard working team of developers at Crytek will bring Linux support to their amazing CryEngine, allowing all game developers to port their awesome games to the Linux platform easily.

However, for now, Crytek said in the short announcement that the upcoming Linux support, which will be implemented in one of the next updates of CryEngine, will be limited to the game launcher.

As such, the Sandbox editor will continue to run only on the Microsoft Windows operating system, but game developers are allowed to sell their games for Linux too without any royalties or extra fees.

In conclusion, Crytek urges all game developers who wanted to release their games for Linux, to start planning their ports today. It's like Christmas!
