On July 22, Canonical's Jonas G. Drange informed us all that the Ubuntu Touch developers managed to finish the Wi-Fi Hotspot (also known as Internet Tethering) functionality for the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system.

The new Wi-Fi Hotspot functionality has been made available for anyone wishing to test it in the silo 46 for both Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) and Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) based phone images. To report bugs, please read the instructions provided in the announcement.

"We've been working on Wi-Fi hotspots which will allow you to share your cellular data connection with nearby clients using a wireless network," says Jonas Drange. "We're happy with how it works, but we're looking for your feedback and unforeseen problems. We want to ask you all to test it and report any issues."

After installing the image that contains the new Internet Tethering feature on your Ubuntu phone, you might want to start the Wi-Fi Hotspot by going to System Settings -> Mobile/Cellular and tapping on the "Wi-Fi hotspot" entry. There, you must first set up your hotspot, making sure Wi-Fi is on, and then enable the functionality.
