Developers are now concentrating on bug fixing

The development cycle for the upcoming OTA update for Ubuntu Touch is coming to a close and developers are preparing to enter the final freeze stage.

When a project enters final freeze, it usually means that new features are no longer accepted and that developers usually concentrate on working exclusively on bug fixes. They have a little over a week to get things sorted out, but with a little bit of luck the new update won't be delayed.

"The new custom tarball for both krillin and arale has been submitted for QA sign-off. That mostly consists of new versions of the Today, News and NearBy scopes, along with some smaller fixes here and there. We also had a few other good fixes from the milestone bug-list landing throughout the day. Next week: final freeze for OTA-6 and the release candidate preparation," noted Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak in this regular message.

The developers continue to improve Ubuntu through regular major upgrades and this is the sixth one. Canonical will also resume the process of phased updates for Ubuntu Touch, which means that not all users will get it at once. Over the course of one day, all Ubuntu users will receive the new OTA updates and the phased process should make it a lot easier for developers to catch any problems in time.
