You might remember the Linux Mangaka distribution from Animesoft International, as we've written several articles about it in the last few months, but today we report that its developers are currently working on a new version.

From the looks of it, the developers of Linux Mangaka can't settle for a desktop environment, as the distribution was switched from GNOME-based elementary OS' Pantheon desktop, to KDE4, and now to MATE.

The development cycle of Linux Mangaka Mou, the next major release of the Ubuntu-based GNU/Linux distribution for anime and manga fans, has begun with a first Beta build seeded to users worldwide earlier today, September 18, 2015.

Being based on the 64-bit version of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr), Linux Mangaka Mou Beta is currently built around the MATE desktop environment and has been designed to be as low on resources as possible.

Unfortunately, there's no official announcement from Animesoft International at the moment of writing this article, nor download links posted on the project's website, but you can download the Linux Mangaka Mou Beta Live ISO image right now from Softpedia.

However, please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, and while the system might look stable enough for production use, it is not. A Beta release should not be installed on production machines where stability is of the essence.
