It's an early call, but it looks like some of the maintainers of the official Ubuntu flavors are now discussing which of them will be participating in the upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) Beta 1 release.

The first Beta of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS will be available only for the opt-in flavors, and until now, only the Ubuntu MATE, Lubuntu and Ubuntu Kylin have been the ones to participate in the previous two Alpha builds, but it remains to be seen if more flavors will be joining the Beta 1 release.

"Flavour leads and/or release teams - I understand this is early for the Xenial Beta 1 - but with the Trusty .4 point release dropping back a week, we will have enough on our plates next week," reads the announcement. "So - if you're intending to participate in the Xenial Beta 1 milestone please respond to this mail."

According to the official release schedule, which has suffered no modifications until now, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Beta 1 should hit the streets in exactly two weeks from today, on February 25, 2016. After that, the development cycle of Xenial Xerus will continue with the second and final Beta build on March 24, in which Ubuntu itself will also take part.

The final release of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) is expected on April 21, 2016, for Ubuntu and all the official flavors, including Kubuntu, Edubuntu, Mythbuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu GNOME, Ubuntu Kylin, Lubuntu, and Xubuntu. Next week, we will have more details on the progress of the Beta 1 release.
