Doomsday Engine

Doomsday Engine is an optimized version of the Doom source code that has been ported to multiple platforms along the years.

Along with Doom, the package also provides the source code for Heretic and Hexen games, all of which have made a bit of history in the gaming world. The role of the updated source codes is to provide developers or fans with a means to keep the charm and core of the original games intact to some extent, while being able to use modern techniques in putting them together.

The engine uses OpenGL and renders graphics with 3D objects, dynamic lights and particle effects. It comes with all the trimmings that are required to create the your own version of the game, including support for networking.

Doomsday Engine is easy to install and use but it does require that you have a copy of the data files of the original game. You are prompted for them during installation and manually providing their location is necessary.
