Embark on a journey to discover a new hospitable plane on which the human race can once again flourish. #Colonize alien world #Turn based strategy #Create civilization #TBS #Strategy #Explore
The human race is facing the events of The Great Mistake and there’s no turning back. With humanity on the verge of demise, a few ships are sent into the infinite universe to find and explore new planets which could sustain life and give us a chance to survive.
The Civilization series has left a huge footprint in the TBS genre and throughout the years, under its many titles, it has evolved into an immersive, challenging and wonderful gaming experience. Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth aims to carry on the legacy of greatness by staying true to the core mechanics and gameplay of previous releases while adding a few new features.
Maps still follow the hexagonal-grid layout on which you get to expand your growing colony by whatever means you find to be most effective and rewarding. Unlike in Civilization V, this time you don’t get to choose from historical empires but take on the influence of the organizations that backup your expedition to the new planet.
When it comes to the latter decision making, your future colony will land on the alien planet with a series of well established perks but as you start to research the ‘Technology Web’ and unlock ‘Affinities’ your new civilization can be shaped to great extents.
In the looks department Civilization has always had it good, even with the way back releases. In Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth, world design is excellent when it comes to the details and that really makes the entire idea of exploring an alien planet exciting.
At times you might get bored watching the exact same animation for attacks from both your troops and the alien’s and if you were to characterize them, variety is not a word you will be using.
On a closing note, Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth can mean different things to different people. If you’ve never played any of the previous Civilization games, then this one might be the best TBS you have ever seen, from all points of view.
If you’ve played Civilization V, you might consider Beyond Earth to be an updated Civ V with entirely different graphics and some new features which don’t necessarily make it a better game. All-in-all, appreciation is subjective but what’s clear is that Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth is a great game to have if you’re a TBS fan.
