Fans of the PlayStation 4 will be able to pick up a new Universal Media Remote for their home console at some point during the month of October, allowing them to control a range of Sony devices from the comfort of their couch.

The company has not yet made an official announcement about it, but both Amazon and GameStop are listing the device as coming on either October 15 or October 31.

Performance Designed Products has created the new Universal Media Remote for the PlayStation 4, after having come up with a similar device for the PS3, and the device supports use with a Sony set-top box, a TV, and audio receiver.

Dedicated buttons will allow gamers to quickly control their home console, and those who want one will need to pay 29.99 dollars or Euro for it.

It will be interesting to see whether Sony will offer any more functionality via an update for the PlayStation 4.

At the moment, the home console is expanding its entertainment offering, and many users are choosing to make it the center piece of their living room experience.

The PlayStation 4 is leading the current-gen sales charts ahead of the Xbox One from Microsoft.
