Gamers are speculating about the new fighters

Video game developer NetherRealm Studios and publisher Warner Bros. are announcing that they are planning to launch four new characters as downloadable content for Mortal Kombat X, but they will only be offered in the first half of 2016.

The two companies are also planning to introduce skins, although it is unclear for how many characters, and a new environment.

The official announcement is not offering any kind of details on the coming content and does not make any suggestion about when the first of them might arrive.

Gamers who are looking for clues about the fighters coming to Mortal Kombat X should probably keep an eye out on statements from series creator Ed Boon, who seems eager to share details with gamers when his studio needs to keep something secret.

Warner Bros. also says that the NPD Group claims the title is the best-selling launch of the year at the moment, which is a solid performance given the fact that the fighting game genre is a relatively niche one.

NetherRealm Studios has been teasing that Smoke will be one of the characters coming in the DLC and the community will probably spend the coming three months speculating about their identities.

Warner Bros. has recently announced that it was canceling development for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 versions of Mortal Kombat X.
