Video game developers Rebellion and Valve are announcing that starting today the survivors that starred in the original Left 4 Dead and its sequel can be used as playable characters in the PC version of Zombie Army Trilogy, delivered in a free update for all those who own the shooter.

The two companies state, "Partner the Vietnam vet Bill Overbeck with grizzled Sniper Elite hero Karl Fairburne, or reunite the heroes of L4D1 for some spine-chilling co-op from a whole other time - whatever way you line up, you'll need your wits about you to thwart the undead army of the Third Reich."

Rebellion is also offering a special comic book to give details on how the characters moved from the series in which they appeared to Zombie Army Trilogy.

Gamers can also pick up the shooter for 66 percent off starting today until Monday, August 24 at 6 PM British Standard Time.

Zombie Army Trilogy is also offered on home consoles, but it is unclear whether the development team has plans to also bring the Left 4 Dead character to those versions of the title.

Rebellion has been offering long-term support for the series, but it's unclear whether the company is planning to deliver a new installment soon or if it will focus on introducing more details for the current installment.
