Guild Wars 2, the popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game made by ArenaNet, might go free-to-play, at least for its core game, according to a leaked announcement. The actual reveal is set to be made tomorrow, at PAX Prime, as the studio has a big panel scheduled to take place at the event.

Guild Wars 2 celebrates its third anniversary today, August 28. The MMORPG has had a pretty smooth ride since its initial debut in 2012, as its clever approach of only charging players the base price, and then offering premium expansions instead of asking for monthly subscriptions, has earned it a loyal following.

Now, it seems that ArenaNet is going to make the core Guild Wars 2 experience free-to-play for anyone interested in it. The announcement arrived via a leaked tweet from IGN. The message was promptly deleted but a screenshot was captured via NeoGAF.

Besides the free-to-play shift, the announcement also claims that raids are going to be added to the popular MMO.

ArenaNet confirmed last week that it was going to hold a major panel at PAX Prime tomorrow, August 29. At the event, the game's future, as well as its upcoming features, is going to be discussed, so it stands to reason that the free-to-play move and the addition of raids might be presented to the world.
